BEAUTY
How do you define beauty?
True beauty is somewhat intangible. It’s a person’s whole being. And I see it the most in people whose life mission is to inspire others. People who radiate positivity are truly beautiful. I definitely have my bottomless pit of depression days so that kind of positive spirit is something that I strive for!
INSPIRATION
What you most inspired by right now?
The Wellness Wonderland podcasts that I learned about from your blog! And honestly, your blog as well. I think I have read each of your posts at least 5 times! {ed. note: awww, shucks! thanks! }
BLISS
What makes you happy?
Traveling. I love exploring new places, cultures, food, etc. My husband and I actually met on a trip to Madagascar so we definitely both share that passion for adventure. And who doesn’t love having a big trip to look forward to?
NATURE
What is your favorite plant/flower and why?
I think this is really trendy so I am reluctant to say it, but right now I have a weird obsession with succulents. They are just fascinating to me. (And really cute!)
Do you remember the last thing you heard about Nature (animals, plants, etc.) that was really fascinating or interesting?
Vitamin C boosts progesterone levels {ed. note. Interesting – which may be why some people swear by it for healing acne!}. Okay, okay that’s not “nature” per se. I also recently heard that there are more stars in the sky than every grain of sand on every beach in the world. Pretty cool!
NOURISH
What do you do (besides skincare) in your life and diet to keep your skin radiant?
This is a great question because I have actually been working towards recognizing skincare for what it is – a supplement. True healing comes from within. With that in mind, I do my best to max out on fruits and vegetables and limit dairy, meat, and sugar. But I also truly enjoy having a cocktail (and maybe a great dessert!) at a restaurant here and there. And I think the joy that I get from that experience outweighs the damaging effects of the sugar. (Did I mention that I’m really great at rationalizing things??) {Ed. note. YAAASSSS!!! No – you are spot on. Pleasure is crucial.} I also love to do yoga and run and I’m working on the meditation piece.
RITUAL
Tell us about a ritual in your life that is particularly powerful or nourishing.
My daily walk to work makes me indescribably happy. I pick up a coffee on the way and love the time I get to spend outside. It’s a relatively short-lived ritual because the winter in Chicago is anything but conducive to being outside, but I love it while it lasts!
SKIN
Please share your favorite moss product and then another product or two that you love and say why.
This is a tough one, but if I had to pick, I would say Clear Resolution. I love the scent and the ingredients, but to be honest, the velvety texture is what takes it to the next level for me. (I also really love Nutrient Synergist so I can’t wait to get my hands on Healing Dew.) As far as other products go, I really love the body oil that I collaborated on with Laurel. She really hit it out of the park with that one. And I’m a sucker for the de Mamiel Seasonal Facial Oils. I love the idea of a product that is specifically crafted with the unique demands of each season in mind.
SOUL
How do you stay grounded?
Meditation. I try and (typically) fail to make this a daily practice, but I think it’s so important for staying present.
BODY
What do you do to truly rest and recuperate?
Sleep. I am a lunatic when it comes to sleep. I need at least 7 to 8 hours every night and during weekends, it’s probably closer to 10. Everything seems better after a good night’s sleep.
What do you do to rejuvenate and re-energize?
I am just a naturally sleepy person so quick 20 minute naps are a lifesaver for me. BUT running also really helps to re-energize me. If I can drag my body on the treadmill, I feel so much more energetic afterwards.
SPIRIT
Best advice you ever received.
Expect great things.
Your life philosophy in one sentence.
“Your vibe attracts your tribe.”
ENERGY
What motivates you to get up in the morning?
I really love what I do and I have big dreams for the future. I think being passionate about what you do day in and day out is incredibly important. If you are feeling stuck and uninspired, it’s time to reevaluate. I know that’s not always realistic or possible, but we are just too damn entrenched in other people’s definitions of life and success. One of my favorite quotes from Steve Jobs is “Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact, and that is that everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you.” And I try to always remember that.
What’s your next big adventure?
Shhhh it’s a secret, but expect great things from Seed to Serum! {ed. note. ummm, can you say cliffhanger?!?}
